A Mix of Horror and Comedy and sci-fi
The film is seeking to tread new narrative ground, mixing elements from multiple genres together.
GET OUT
Jordan Peele’s recent films are probably some of the closest analogs to the style of The Man in My House. Not only does Peele masterfully mix Horror and Comedic elements in his films, they work well in both genres blending together to create something funny yet terrifying at the same time.
EVIL DEAD
The original two Evil Deads both took the isolation of a story told mainly in a single room and expanded it with great, clever filmmaking. Also a film that treaded both the comedic and horror elements.
UGETSU
Kenji Mitzogushi’s classic Japanese Horror masterpiece about a beautiful spirit who comes to visit a poor peasant.
ERASERHEAD
David Lynch’s indie classic would be a perfectly at home in the universe of this film, sharing a similar sense of unease and weirdness that you are unsure if it’s real or a dream.
MONTY PYTHON’S THE MEANING OF LIFE
The Monty Python MEANING OF LIFE movie captures the type of dark humor I’d like to pursue with the piece, but also with framing it within pontifications on life and death.
EVERYTHING, EVERYWHERE, ALL AT ONCE
